To portray the biblical Jesus as an ordinary man of a humble family background, is to contradict the overwhelming evidence in the Bible itself that he was a monarch with power and authority. Here are some biblical references:
- The Bible describes him as of royal blood, born “King of the Jews”. The Bible tells us that when Jesus was born,
wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born King of the Jews?” ...
[Matthew, 2:2-3]
- The Bible tells us that Herod, the King of Judea, was told of a prophecy that the biblical Jesus is to become,
... a ruler who will govern my people Israel.
[Matthew, 2:6]
The biblical description of “a ruler to govern” leaves no doubt regarding his prominent role.
- He was a man of authority,
And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teachings, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
[Matthew, 7:28-29]
- He was always addressed by the crowd as “Lord” on numerous occasions, signifying a person in a high position.
- He showed his authority when he commanded his disciples to bring somebody else’s ass and colt because:
“The Lord has need of them.” “... Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If any one says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them’
[Matthew, 21:1-3]
- The next biblical verses describe his role as the King of the Jews.
Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass.
[Matthew, 21:5] |

Also a very similar verse is stated in John, 12:13-15.
- The only question asked to him, indicates that he was the King,
And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”
[Mark, 15:2]
Very similar verses are stated in Matthew, 27:11 and Luke, 23:3-4.
- A short time later he again was referred to as the King,
Hail, King of the Jews!
[Matthew, 27:29]
- Another reference to him as the King,
And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
[Mark, 15:18]
- The charge against him which caused his execution was being the “King of the Jews”,
And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus the King of the Jews.”
[Matthew, 27:37]
Also:
And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.”
[Mark, 15:26]
- More references to him as the King,
He is the King of Israel ...
[Matthew, 27:42]
Let the Christ, the King of Israel ...
[Mark, 15:32]
... and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.”
[Luke, 23:37-38]
- Here again he is called the King of the Jews,
And he answered them, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”
[Mark, 15:9]
- Another reference to him as the King,
And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man whom you call the King of the Jews?”
[Mark, 15:12]
- He was the descendent of kings,
Jesus Christ, the son [meaning descendent] of (King) David
[Matthew, 1:1]
- The Bible clearly states that Jesus inherited the throne of King David,
and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father [meaning his ancestor] David.
[Luke, 1:32]
- He was addressed by ordinary people “Son of David” on numerous occasions throughout the Bible, which provides additional evidence that the historical Christ was of royal descent.
